The construction of a super specialty hospital in Warangal, Telangana, is facing scrutiny after allegations of cost overruns surfaced. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has ordered an investigation by the Vigilance and Enforcement Department into the matter. The project’s initial estimated cost was 1100 crores, but it ballooned to 1726 crores. During a recent visit to Warangal, the Chief Minister held a review meeting with district officials where the additional expenses were revealed. He questioned how a verbal order could justify an increase of 626 crores. Officials attributed the cost escalation to verbal instructions from the previous government. The investigation will focus on irregularities in the construction process, including allegations of overpriced materials. For instance, marble was reportedly purchased at 500 rupees per square foot, while the market value is 300 rupees.
