A gastroenterologist has warned against skipping breakfast or consuming sugary foods in the morning, explaining that these habits can negatively impact the pancreas. According to Dr. Dilara Lebedeva, a gastroenterologist and endocrinologist, skipping breakfast can lead to overeating later in the day, contributing to weight gain, metabolic disorders, and diabetes. She suggests that the ideal time for breakfast is between 6 and 9 a.m. and emphasizes the importance of avoiding high-carbohydrate breakfasts such as cereal or bread. Dr. Lebedeva advises opting for a low-carb breakfast consisting of eggs with salmon, cottage cheese, raw vegetables, and greens. She explains that sugary foods cause a spike in blood glucose levels, forcing the pancreas to produce excess insulin, which can lead to long-term complications.
