Weequahic’s defense was the key factor in their 17-6 season-opening victory over Mountain Lakes. The visitors took a 3-0 lead in the first quarter before Reynaldo Carter scored a four-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, giving Weequahic a 10-0 lead at halftime. Paul Jones III added another score for Weequahic in the third quarter with a one-yard touchdown run, extending their lead to 17-0. Mountain Lakes finally got on the board late in the game with a one-yard touchdown run by Carson Fitch, but their two-point conversion attempt and onside kick were unsuccessful.
