In 1895, under the leadership of public works entrepreneur Chris Schad, the municipality of Belfort decided to construct a tramway system. This decision was driven by the rapid population growth Valdoie was experiencing, which required new infrastructure and public services. A deal was struck between the city and Tramways Electriques de Belfort (T.E.B.), outlining two tramway lines, one of which would connect Place de la Bascule (Corbis) to Valdoie, ending at Rue Carnot (near the town hall). The inauguration took place on May 29, 1898, a pivotal moment in Valdoie’s history.
