The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported a recent outbreak of Listeria infections in the United States, linked to contaminated deli meats. The outbreak has resulted in 14 new cases and six deaths. This marks the largest Listeria outbreak since 2011, with a total of 57 confirmed cases, all requiring hospitalization. The CDC warns that Listeria poses a higher risk to pregnant women, individuals aged 65 and over, and those with weakened immune systems. It can lead to miscarriage, premature birth, or newborn infections in pregnant women. For older adults and immunocompromised individuals, Listeria can cause serious illnesses, including hospitalization and death.
