US Open Shocker: Alcaraz Out in Second Round

Carlos Alcaraz, the world’s third-ranked player, suffered a shocking defeat at the US Open, falling in the second round to the world No. 74, Botic van de Zandschulp of the Netherlands. Van de Zandschulp triumphed in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5, 6-4, ending Alcaraz’s dream of becoming the third man in the modern era to win the French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open in the same year. Alcaraz had consistently reached at least the quarter-finals in his previous three appearances in New York. He was drawn in the same half of the draw as Jannik Sinner.
