The Uruguayan Football Federation (AUF) has announced it will pay the full salary of late footballer Juan Izquierdo to his family for the next eight years. This decision comes following Izquierdo’s unexpected death, which occurred after suffering a cardiac arrhythmia during a Copa Libertadores match between Sao Paulo and Nacional. Izquierdo passed away five days later in hospital. The AUF president, Ignacio Alonso, stated that the agreement is in accordance with the federation’s regulations. The gesture of support for Izquierdo’s family reflects the widespread grief and solidarity felt throughout Uruguay following his death.
