A group of musicians, including Pedro do Carmo, Lluïsa Paredes, and composer Eva Aguilar, have launched a project to reinterpret the music of José Afonso, a revered Portuguese singer-songwriter known for his political activism. They believe Afonso’s musical talent is often overshadowed by his political legacy. The project, titled ‘Zeca…’, involves adapting Afonso’s songs for cello, highlighting their musical depth and innovation. The musicians aim to showcase Afonso’s unique musical style, which they believe is underappreciated, and share his genius with a wider audience. They are also planning to release an album featuring their arrangements and a book containing the scores and essays about Afonso’s music.
