UN Condemns Israeli Foreign Minister’s Threat to Evict Palestinians

The United Nations has sharply condemned statements made by Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz, who threatened the temporary evacuation of Palestinians from the West Bank cities of Jenin and Tulkarm. The UN Human Rights Office spokesperson, Ravina Shamdasani, expressed deep concern about the escalating situation in the West Bank, highlighting the potential for further human rights violations. Shamdasani warned that such statements from officials could encourage these violations. The Israeli military launched a large-scale operation in the northern West Bank on Wednesday, marking the largest incursion since 2002. Israeli forces continue their offensive in Jenin and its refugee camp, carrying out searches, detentions, and intimidation of residents. The UN has called for the release of its staff detained by the Houthis. The UN’s condemnation comes as tensions escalate in the West Bank, with the Israeli military’s offensive facing strong international criticism.
