Ukrainian forces have advanced 2 kilometers into Russia’s Kursk Oblast, according to Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief General Oleksandr Syrsky. This advance is part of a larger counteroffensive operation launched three weeks ago by Ukraine in the western Russian region. While the initial gains saw Kyiv control over 100 settlements and a push of up to 35 kilometers, progress has since slowed. However, Syrsky stated that Ukrainian forces have resumed their advance, capturing 5 square kilometers in the last 24 hours. The operation is seen as a strategic move to protect border areas from ongoing Russian attacks. Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces repelled multiple attempts by Russian troops to breach defenses near the key eastern city of Pokrovsk, a crucial transportation and evacuation hub.
