Ukraine has appealed to Mongolia to arrest Russian President Vladimir Putin during his visit on September 3rd. The request is based on an International Criminal Court (ICC) warrant issued last March, accusing Putin of war crimes related to the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children. The Kremlin dismissed the accusations as politically motivated. While Mongolia is a member of the ICC, the Kremlin expressed no concern about Putin’s trip, stating that discussions with Mongolian authorities about the warrant have been thoroughly addressed. The ICC warrant obliges member states to apprehend Putin and transfer him to The Hague for trial should he enter their territory.
