Professors from the Autonomous University of Sinaloa (UAS), part of the CIVITAS research group, have demanded a consultation with the university community on proposed reforms to the institution’s Organic Law. They insist that the university authorities should not be involved in the consultation process. Sergio Alberto Cervantes, a professor at the Faculty of History, stated that they submitted a formal request to the University Council, demanding the opening of the consultation process. The professors argue that the General Education Law allows for such consultations to be conducted without the direct participation of university authorities. They point out that the UAS already secured a court ruling declaring five articles of the state’s higher education law unconstitutional. This led the state Congress to decide that the reform would be aligned with the General Education Law. The consultation process, which will take place between August 26 and September 6, aims to gather input from the university community on the proposed reforms.
