A new study by Yasser Zidan, a PhD candidate at the University of Washington, accuses the United Arab Emirates of exacerbating the conflict in Sudan by supplying weapons to rebel forces. The study, published in Foreign Policy magazine, argues that Abu Dhabi’s actions are prolonging the war and hindering peace efforts. Zidan claims the international community has been complicit in this situation, particularly highlighting the UK’s role in shielding the UAE’s actions. The study criticizes the UK for prioritizing trade with the UAE over the humanitarian crisis in Sudan, specifically pointing to instances where the UK has interfered with UN Security Council meetings to prevent Sudan from voicing its concerns about the UAE’s involvement in the conflict. The study calls for an immediate halt to the flow of weapons from the UAE to Sudan and emphasizes the need for international accountability for those responsible for human rights violations.
