Typhoon Shanshan brought heavy rain to much of Japan, leading to warnings of potential flooding and landslides hundreds of miles from the storm’s center. The storm, which claimed at least three lives and injured around 80 people, caused widespread power outages on the southwestern island of Kyushu. Approximately 125,000 households were left without electricity, and disruptions to transportation and factory production were also reported. The powerful typhoon, with wind speeds reaching 50 meters per second, or about 180 kilometers per hour, was strong enough to displace even trucks. While the typhoon has weakened to a tropical storm and is moving northeastward across the country, it continues to bring heavy rain.
