Binali Camgöz, a Turkish citizen wanted on an Interpol Red Notice for serious crimes, was extradited to Turkey from Montenegro after a lengthy investigation and diplomatic efforts by Turkish intelligence. The arrest of Camgöz, alleged leader of the Camgöz Group, a major organized crime organization, deals a significant blow to the group’s operations. Camgöz, who had fled to Georgia in 2018 to avoid prosecution for various crimes, including murder, extortion, and drug trafficking, was arrested in Montenegro in July 2022 using a fake passport. Montenegrin authorities determined that Camgöz posed a national security threat, leading to his extradition. Turkish intelligence worked diligently to secure his return, coordinating with Turkish diplomatic and security agencies, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Interior.
