Tunisia’s judiciary has reinstated three presidential candidates, bringing the total number of contenders to six, ahead of the upcoming presidential election in October. The reinstatement follows appeals filed by the candidates against the electoral commission’s initial decision to disqualify them. Among the reinstated candidates is political figure Emad Daimi, who served as director of the presidential office under former President Moncef Marzouki. The court’s decision to reinstate Daimi, along with two other candidates, Abdul Latif Al-Meki and Mounir Al-Zanaidi, was announced Friday on Daimi’s Facebook page. The three candidates had challenged the electoral commission’s decision, arguing that their applications met the requirements for candidacy. The final list of presidential candidates is expected to be announced by the High Electoral Commission by September 3rd.
