Seven individuals were apprehended in Istanbul after attempting to excavate for treasure in an Orthodox cemetery in the Şişli district. Following their capture, authorities discovered explosives used for rock breaking at their homes. The suspects were caught on security cameras fleeing the cemetery with a sack after their digging activity was reported to the police. Upon investigation, authorities discovered various artifacts at the site, including a glass jar, six bottles, and pieces believed to be fragments of 49 pots. The suspects were subsequently apprehended after police identified their vehicles and tracked them down. During a search of their residences, authorities found a metal detector, an air pistol, six explosives for rock breaking, a map, and documents related to treasure hunting. While the suspects claimed they were unsuccessful in their search for treasure, they were taken into custody and later released on probation after a judicial review.
