A group of travellers have set up camp in Farnworth, prompting officials to begin the legal process for their removal. Around half-a-dozen caravans moved onto land off Cawdor Street over the weekend. It’s unclear if these travellers are the same group who were previously asked to leave Crompton Lodges, the permanent Gypsy and Traveller Site in Moses Gate, in July. Last week, travellers evicted from their permanent home in Moses Gate returned to fields in Breightmet, their first stop after being forced out, before moving on again. This latest encampment in Farnworth follows a pattern of displacement and return for the traveller community.
