Tokyo Stock Market Closes Up 0.74% on Strong Gains

The Tokyo Stock Exchange closed higher today, with the benchmark Nikkei index gaining 0.74% to 38,647 points. The broader Topix index, which tracks the performance of the 1,600 largest companies listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, also rose, closing 0.73% higher at 2,712.63 points. The Nikkei index reflects the unweighted average of the 225 largest companies listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
