The Alexandrinsky Theatre, Russia’s National Drama Theatre, is opening its 269th season with a bang. The theatre, renowned for its rich history and prestigious productions, has undergone a creative reboot, welcoming a new artistic director, Nikita Kobelev, and a new director, Alexander Malich. Valery Fokin, the theatre’s artistic director for over twenty years, has transitioned to the role of President. To mark the opening, the Alexandrinsky Theatre will premiere Konstantin Bogomolov’s play ‘Mother: A Bitter Play.’ This premiere also kicks off the 15th International Theatre Festival ‘Alexandrinsky’. This marks Bogomolov’s directorial debut at the theatre and is based on a play he co-authored with Anna Nosovaya. The premiere performances will take place on August 30th, 31st, September 1st, and 5th on the theatre’s main stage.
