Tesla China has announced a recall of 870 imported Model X vehicles due to a potential issue with the roof trim panels. The recall, posted on China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) website, affects Model X units manufactured between March 16, 2016, and July 31, 2016. The recall mirrors a similar one issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the United States, affecting 9,136 2016 Model X vehicles. The issue stems from insufficient primer on the roof trim panels, which can lead to weakened adhesion over time, potentially causing the panels to detach from the vehicle. While some vehicles were inspected and addressed in a previous recall in November 2020, Tesla China is now reinspecting the affected vehicles, conducting adhesion tests on the roof panels and providing free replacements if necessary. This recall reinforces the importance of safety and quality control, even for vehicles that have been previously inspected.
