Storms and Hail Expected in Greece this Weekend

The weather in Greece is set to take a turn for the worse this weekend, with heavy rain, thunderstorms, and even hail expected. Meteorologist Christina Rigou has warned that the stormy weather will continue throughout most of the country, particularly in the afternoon and evening hours. The Ionian islands, mainland Greece, and Crete are expected to experience the strongest storms, with hail and frequent lightning strikes. Coastal areas, particularly in western Greece, the Peloponnese, and Thessaly, are also at risk of sudden squalls and strong winds. While Athens will experience showers and thunderstorms this afternoon, conditions are expected to improve by this evening. The stormy weather is forecast to continue into Saturday, with strong thunderstorms anticipated in central and southern Greece, including the mainland, the Sporades islands, central and northern Evia, eastern Thessaly, and Chalkidiki. These areas have already been affected by recent storms and wildfires. The Peloponnese will also experience heavy rainfall.
