Stop & Shop, a major grocery chain, has closed its first Massachusetts location as part of its plan to shutter 32 underperforming stores nationwide, including eight in Massachusetts. The Newton store, located at 165 Needham Street, was the first to close on August 29th. The company has stated that all other affected stores will remain open through September and October, with the remaining Massachusetts locations scheduled to close before November 2nd. Customers will be notified of closure dates a week in advance through in-store signage, weekly circulars, and customer emails. Stop & Shop has not yet announced a specific closure schedule for each remaining location. Associates affected by the closures will be offered opportunities within the company.
