The Santa Maria de Carracedo Monastery in the municipality of Carracedelo, Leon, Spain, is now offering a comprehensive audio guide system for visitors. Managed by the Leon Institute of Culture (ILC), the monastery, a national historical and artistic landmark, has implemented a modern system that not only provides detailed information but also guides visitors through the monument’s various spaces. The audio guide, available in Spanish and English, utilizes QR codes to activate mobile devices, offering clear instructions and commentary that lead visitors through the museum’s recommended route. This interactive system allows visitors to explore at their own pace, focusing on areas of particular interest. The creation of the audio guide involved collaboration with the monastery’s official guide, ILC staff, and specialists from Codigo Cultura and Feedback Studios. The implementation of the audio guide is part of a broader initiative by the ILC to promote public awareness of the monastery, one of the most unique monuments in the Leon region. These initiatives include free admission on Sundays, a new information booklet, theatrical tours, and the ‘Entresebes Folk’ festival. The monastery, founded in 990, boasts a rich history, having belonged to both Benedictine and Cistercian orders. It holds architectural elements dating back to the 12th and 13th centuries, with spaces like the Queen’s Viewpoint, the Queen’s Kitchen, and the cloister offering notable beauty and artistic significance. The implementation of the audio guide further enhances the visitor experience at this historical landmark.
