The National Assembly’s Science, Information, Broadcasting and Communications Committee (SIBCC) has voted to demand an audit of the Broadcasting Commission (BC) over its two-person structure and alleged irregularities in the appointment process for public broadcasting executives. Committee Chair Choi Min-hee proposed the audit, citing concerns over the BC’s overall management, the legality of its two-person structure, the appointment process for public broadcasting executives, and its non-compliance with information disclosure obligations. The ruling Democratic Party strongly supported the audit, highlighting the importance of public officials serving the public and demanding accountability for the BC’s actions. However, the opposition People Power Party (PPP) criticized the audit as politically motivated, claiming that the BC’s structure and appointments were already being addressed by the Constitutional Court and that the audit was a waste of time and resources. The PPP also argued that the audit is an overreach of the National Assembly’s power, as the BC’s operational procedures are not subject to parliamentary oversight.
