Seven individuals convicted in the kidnapping case of the son of a former Egyptian health minister are appealing their prison sentences. The defendants, including a fitness trainer, a housewife, and a mobile phone shop owner, were found guilty by a Giza court in June. The court sentenced them to between 5 and 7 years in prison for their involvement in the abduction. The prosecution argued that the defendants had kidnapped the victim in September 2022, using deception and coercion. The victim had a friendship with one of the defendants, who believed his friend was wealthy. The group then orchestrated a plan, using a combination of threats and deception, to kidnap the victim. The case is scheduled to be heard again on September 2nd in Giza’s Court of Appeals.
