Nemanja Stojkovic, defender for Maccabi Tel Aviv, will not be part of the Serbian national team for upcoming matches against Spain and Denmark in the Nations League. While the Serbian coach Dragan Stojkovic released the squad, Stojkovic was left out. He made his national debut in January 2023 against the US and has been a regular, most notably playing 90 minutes in a friendly win against Sweden. However, the biggest story in Serbia revolves around the absences of key players Aleksandar Mitrovic and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, both playing for Al Hilal. Reports suggest they reported ‘injuries’, despite playing full games for their club on Wednesday, with Mitrovic even scoring twice. Adding to the frustration, Dusan Vlahovic also withdrew from the team citing family issues. Serbian fans are expressing anger, demanding explanations from the players for their unwillingness to play for the national team, especially after the disappointing Euro 2024 campaign.
