Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic revealed he hasn’t spoken to Russian President Vladimir Putin for two and a half years, since the start of the war in Ukraine. He maintained Serbia’s commitment to its European Union path, though acknowledged the country’s traditionally strong relationship with Russia. While emphasizing Serbia’s condemnation of the Russian invasion through various international platforms, Vucic also stressed his refusal to impose sanctions on Russia, claiming to be honest about Serbia’s position. Despite the lack of contact with Putin, Vucic expressed optimism regarding Serbia’s progress towards EU membership, citing positive discussions with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. Vucic asserted that Serbia’s contributions to Ukraine’s humanitarian aid efforts surpass those of other Western Balkan nations.
