A former Illinois school district employee has been sentenced to nine years in prison for stealing millions of dollars worth of chicken wings intended for students. Vera Liddell, 68, was convicted of embezzling $1.5 million worth of chicken wings while working as the head of food services for a school district in the Chicago area. Liddell’s scheme, which lasted for a year, involved using the school district’s delivery truck to collect large orders of chicken wings. While the schools were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the district continued to distribute food packages to students learning remotely, none of the students received any of the stolen chicken wings.
