School Board Re-votes on Superintendent’s Travel to New Orleans Conference

The Worthington District 518 School Board held a special meeting to reconsider a vote on Superintendent John Landgaard’s request to attend a national conference in New Orleans. The initial vote, held on August 20th, resulted in a 3-3 tie, but due to a miscount by the board chairman, the request was initially declared passed. After the meeting, it was discovered that the vote was actually tied, requiring a re-vote. During the special meeting, all seven board members were present and voted again on the request. After some discussion, the motion to approve Landgaard’s travel request was passed 4-3, with three members opposing. The opposition argued that the superintendent’s need to attend a conference just three months before his planned retirement was questionable.
