Saint Alexander of Svir, born on June 15th, 1448, was a Russian ascetic renowned for his devout life. His journey began in Novgorod, where he was raised in a deeply religious family. Though intended for marriage, he chose a life of solitude at the age of 19, seeking refuge in the Valaam Monastery. Here, he became a monk, adopting the name Alexander, and dedicated himself to spiritual pursuits. After 10 years of silent contemplation on a small island, he heeded a divine call to return to a previously designated location by a lake. For seven years, he lived as a hermit, his devotion attracting the attention of a nobleman who stumbled upon him during a hunting trip. This discovery brought followers to Alexander, who was revered as a saint during his lifetime. Saint Alexander’s legacy includes his incorrupt body, preserved for over 491 years after his death in 1533. His remains are considered a testament to his holy life and continue to inspire countless individuals.
