A Russian aerial assault on Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, resulted in a devastating fire at a residential building and a high-rise, killing at least five people, including one child. Horrific footage captured the inferno engulfing the high-rise in the city’s Industrialny district, with flames billowing from windows and burning cars below. The mayor of Kharkiv, Ihor Terekhov, reported that the Russian attack targeted civilian areas, including a playground where a child was killed. The attack also claimed the lives of four other individuals in a 12-story apartment block. Regional governor Oleg Synehubov stated that at least 40 people were injured in the attacks, with the casualty count expected to rise. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attack, claiming Russian guided bombs were responsible, and called for stronger support from the US and Europe to repel Russia’s aggression. He emphasized the need for long-range weapons and strengthened air defenses to save lives.
