The National Environmental Guard in Romania has imposed fines totaling approximately 500,000 lei (around 100,000 euros) on gravel pits in Prahova County following inspections. The agency’s actions stemmed from concerns about violations in the extraction of mineral aggregates, including non-compliance with permits and potential damage to the Prahova and Teleajen rivers. A total of 8 fines were issued, along with a suspension order for one gravel pit operator until they obtain the necessary environmental permits. The enforcement action involved 50 environmental inspectors and gendarmes who conducted inspections at gravel pits, asphalt mixing plants, and concrete plants in Prahova County. An additional fine of 70,000 lei was levied on the local authorities of Floreşti commune for an open fire incident detected during the inspections.
