A wildfire continues to rage in the Caras-Severin region of Romania, prompting authorities to call upon the Romanian Air Force for assistance. The Ministry of National Defense has announced the deployment of two C-27J Spartan aircraft to support firefighters battling the blaze. The aircraft, deployed at the request of the Emergency Situations Department, will focus on extinguishing the wildfire in the forested area near the villages of Pojejena and Moldova Noua. The mission is deemed crucial due to the risk of the fire spreading to other forested areas and the inaccessibility of the region for ground-based firefighting units. Notably, the Romanian Air Force has previously intervened in August to combat wildfires in both Caras-Severin and Albania. The C-27J Spartan aircraft are capable of carrying up to 6,000 liters of water per flight. Since 2017, these aircraft have been deployed to extinguish numerous forest fires in Romania and internationally, including France, Slovenia, Greece, and North Macedonia.
