Qatar Airways is on track to acquire a 49% stake in RwandAir in the third quarter of 2023. The deal, which has been in the works for some time, is expected to mark the final stage of Qatar Airways’ expansion into the African market. The airline recently announced a 25% stake acquisition in Airlink, a South African regional airline operating flights to over 45 destinations in 15 African countries. This acquisition underscores Qatar Airways’ strategic focus on building a robust presence in Africa. In 2019, Qatar Airways acquired a 60% stake in a new $1.3 billion international airport being built in Rwanda. Additionally, the airline signed a codeshare agreement with RwandAir in 2021, expanding connectivity and offering passengers access to a wider range of destinations.
