Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to visit Mongolia next week, a country legally obligated to arrest him and hand him over to the International Criminal Court (ICC). The ICC issued an arrest warrant for Putin in March 2023, alleging that Russia illegally deported Ukrainian children during the invasion. Mongolia, a signatory to the Rome Statute governing the ICC, is legally bound to comply with the court’s request. However, the Kremlin insists there are no concerns about the visit, emphasizing that all aspects have been meticulously planned. The ICC has stated that Mongolian authorities are obligated to apprehend Putin if he enters the country.
