Portuguese authorities have made a significant drug bust, seizing over 6.5 tons of cocaine. The massive haul, believed to be destined for European markets, was intercepted by the Portuguese police, leading to the arrest of three individuals. The suspects are alleged to be part of a global criminal organization. Artur Vaz, Director of the National Drug Trafficking Unit, confirmed that Portugal was not the final destination for the drugs, and that the shipment was intended for other European countries. Vaz emphasized the transnational nature of the operation, highlighting the involvement of multiple countries in the smuggling network. The operation, dubbed ‘Tartarus,’ spanned two months and involved searches of properties, leading to the confiscation of various assets, including high-end vehicles and documentation. This unprecedented seizure underscores the scale and complexity of international drug trafficking operations.
