Portuguese Foreign Minister Offers Condolences After Fatal Helicopter Crash

Paulo Rangel, Portugal’s Minister of State and Foreign Affairs, expressed deep condolences to the families of the five GNR military personnel who tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash in the Douro River. The helicopter, carrying six passengers including a pilot and a team of five GNR soldiers returning from fighting a fire in Baiao, crashed near Samodaes, Lamego, at approximately 12:50 p.m. The pilot, the sole survivor, was rescued by a recreational boat after escaping the wreckage. While the search for the missing GNR soldiers continues, the incident has deeply affected the nation.
