The Polish government has proposed a budget allocation of 0.15 billion złoty ($150 million) to the National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT) and the National Media Institute, and 0.58 billion złoty ($580 million) to the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) for the year 2025. The KRRiT, responsible for safeguarding freedom of speech and the right to information in broadcasting, will oversee the allocation of funds to regulate radio and television broadcasts, monitor public and commercial broadcasters, and issue licenses for program distribution. The IPN, responsible for historical research and education, will focus on archiving, investigation, and commemoration efforts related to Poland’s history, including the pursuit of justice for victims of totalitarian regimes. While the IPN’s allocation represents a slight decrease compared to the 2024 budget, the overall commitment to these institutions reflects the Polish government’s priority to uphold freedom of speech, safeguard national memory, and promote historical awareness.
