Google’s Pixel 9 series boasts improved battery life and charging capabilities. A notable change is the Pixel 9’s stricter requirements for fast charging. Previously, Android considered any charger exceeding 7.5W as ‘fast,’ leading to a generic ‘Charging rapidly’ message on Pixel phones. Now, Google has upped the ante, requiring a minimum of 20W for the ‘Charging rapidly’ indicator to appear. This threshold, more than double the previous limit, ensures that only truly fast chargers trigger the message, providing users with clearer information about charging speed. This change, implemented on the Pixel 9 (27W charging) and Pixel 9 Pro XL (37W charging), could potentially trickle down to other Android phones in the future. While not confirmed, Google’s new standard might eventually become the norm for faster charging experiences on Android devices.
