Pitt running back Rodney Hammond Jr. has been declared ineligible for the 2024 season, the school announced. The reason for his ineligibility was not disclosed. Despite the setback, Hammond remains a member of the team and is allowed to practice. Hammond was the returning starter at running back after leading the team with 564 yards and four touchdowns in the 2023 season. Coach Pat Narduzzi has confirmed that Desmond Reid will be the starting running back for the upcoming season. Reid, a transfer from Western Carolina, brings experience from playing under new Pitt offensive coordinator Kade Bell.
