Peru’s fencing team had a triumphant start to the South American Fencing Championships in Lima, securing a collection of medals across various categories. Renzo Fukuda, a young athlete from the Peruvian Sports Support Program (PAD), claimed gold in the men’s foil category. Kusi Rosales secured a bronze medal in the women’s foil, adding to Peru’s impressive medal tally. The Peruvian women’s foil team, composed of Rosales, Mariana Soriano, Astrid Bravo, and Cielo Vizcarra, took home the silver medal in the team competition. Fukuda expressed his joy at the victory, stating that representing his country for the first time was an honor. Rosales, also pleased with her bronze medal, highlighted the importance of teamwork and nerve control in her success. The championship features 45 Peruvian fencers competing in individual and team events across the disciplines of foil, épée, and sabre.
