Peru’s Government Revamps Agroperu Fund to Empower Small-Scale Farmers

The Peruvian government has announced significant changes to the Agroperu Fund, a key financial instrument for agricultural development. The modifications, outlined in Legislative Decree No. 1637, aim to provide better services and support to small-scale farmers, particularly those organized in cooperatives or associations. The revised fund will offer direct financing, risk coverage guarantees, and agricultural extension services to help farmers access essential resources, improve their productivity, and connect with markets. Additionally, the Agroperu Fund will now cover operational costs, ensuring its effective implementation. The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri) will regularly publish detailed information on fund transfers, available resources, and loan/guarantee distributions. This transparency will enhance accountability and ensure the fund’s efficiency.
