According to a recent report by South Korea’s Ministry of Health and Welfare, parents were responsible for a staggering 86% of child abuse cases in 2023. This alarming statistic underscores the significant role parents play in child abuse and calls for intensified efforts to prevent such incidents. The report, which analyzed over 48,000 child abuse reports, found that the number of reported cases has been steadily increasing over the past five years. The report also found that 44 children died as a result of abuse in 2023. The ministry has pledged to implement stronger preventative measures, including early detection of at-risk children and increased awareness campaigns targeting parents.
