A total of 51 of the 174 migrants who arrived on El Hierro this Saturday on the first cayuco of the day are Pakistani and Syrian, according to emergency teams and security forces. This marks a significant event, as it is rare to see a single boat with such a large number of migrants from Syria and Pakistan reaching the Canary Islands. The boat’s passengers also included individuals from Senegal, Mali, Gambia, and Guinea Conakry, nationalities more common on the Atlantic route. The migrants spent nearly five days at sea and departed from Nouakchott, Mauritania.
