The National Conference, a regional political party in Jammu and Kashmir, has vowed to prioritize the removal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) from the region if elected to power. Party vice-president Omar Abdullah, who previously served as the state’s chief minister, made this promise, stating that the party’s goal is to end the ‘unjust harassment faced by Kashmiri youth.’ Abdullah, known for his stance against AFSPA, had previously advocated for its revocation in 2012 during his term as chief minister, but faced resistance from the military. He emphasized the National Conference’s commitment to fulfilling its manifesto promises, including creating job opportunities, streamlining passport verification, and ensuring access to essential resources for all citizens.
