The emergency room at Oliver Hospital in British Columbia has closed for the eighth time in three weeks due to a shortage of doctors. Interior Health (IH) announced that emergency services at the South Okanagan General Hospital will be unavailable from 1 p.m. on Friday, August 30, to 7 a.m. on Saturday, August 31. This marks the eighth closure since August 9th, and the 17th closure since June 9th. While the ER is closed, patients can access care at the Penticton Regional Hospital. All other inpatient services at South Okanagan General Hospital continue as normal. The provincial health authority recommends calling 9-1-1 for life-threatening emergencies, such as chest pains, difficulty breathing, or severe bleeding.
