Philippine transportation officials have announced that motorists will not be penalized if they encounter broken RFID readers on tollways. This decision comes after concerns were raised regarding the potential for motorists to be unfairly fined due to malfunctioning equipment. While motorists are exempt from fines, toll operators will face penalties for broken RFID machines. These penalties will be calculated based on a specific formula and will be heavier than those levied on motorists. The government has also clarified that the implementation of fines for insufficient RFID load balance has been postponed to October 1, 2024, to allow for more time to fine-tune operations and educate the public about the new guidelines.
