Stakeholders in the Hajj industry are calling for a review of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) Act, demanding changes to improve services and address concerns about financial mismanagement and pilgrim welfare. The stakeholders argue that reviewing or repealing the Act would resolve conflicts of interest and allow the private sector to play a more prominent role in Hajj operations. Concerns about NAHCON’s shift from a regulatory body to an operator have also been raised, with calls for the commission to focus on its core mandate of policy, regulation, and consular services. The Presidency has joined the call for reform, expressing concerns about financial mismanagement, negligence, and the maltreatment of pilgrims. The Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of Staff have called for a complete overhaul of the commission’s operations, emphasizing the need for transparency, early preparation, and improved representation within the organization.
