The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has announced the cancellation of their planned protest against the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). The protest, initially intended to highlight allegations of the diversion of 42,000 metric tons of food items, was called off after a thorough investigation by NANS revealed the claims to be unfounded. Following a meeting with NEMA leadership, NANS President Akinteye Afeez stated that the allegations of diversion were baseless and that all states had received their allocated food supplies, with the exception of Akwa Ibom, where a delay was attributed to late transportation payments. NANS now commends NEMA’s transparency and commitment to its mandate, and will instead collaborate with the agency to educate students on disaster management and preparedness.
